Adventure Zimbabwe - Ref ZM-TBA

Zimbabwe is a beautiful country with some spectacular scenery, not least the mighty Victoria Falls, and the people themselves are very friendly and hospitable despite their relatively poor circumstances. The country offers a vast scope for expeditions of all kinds, be it backpacking, canoeing, wildlife or aid projects. Regrettably the internal problems of the country over recent years has resulted in it no longer being a safe part of Africa in which to take scouts. Indeed, its current problems of acute food and fuel shortages would make it impossible to sustain an expedition there.

Looking on the brighter side, a small reconnaissance team is being recruited to be on standby to revisit Zimbabwe at an early date once the present problems are resolved, and a number of Zimbabwean scouters are also working towards this aim. The objectives of this team will be to re-establish personal contact with Zimbabwe Scout Headquarters, and to re-establish links with Scouting and other contacts. It should also be possible to review any projects that have been 'put on ice' and to take the opportunity to identify a range of new projects and expedition opportunities. An important aspect of the visit will be to assess the general safety for parties and to ensure that transport and other infrastructures are available to sustain any visiting expeditions.

We are hoping to recruit to the team members who are already experienced in Africa travels, and particularly those who may already have experience of Zimbabwe.
